Five organizations from different business sectors speaking about GUST

Paul Harradin

Director of Human Resources

KPMG Safi Al-Mutawa & Partners

KPMG Kuwait is delighted to have established such a positive and rewarding relationship with the Gulf University for Science and Technology. Every time I visit the University I am struck by the quality of the students and how keen they are to come to the KPMG stand to discuss business and career issues. During the past two years, we, at KPMG, have been privileged by having several students from the University who have come to join us for an internship, where they have been given the opportunity to experience working in a global organization.

Vivian Rafla

HR Coordinator - PM & TD - HR/NBK Capital

NBK Capital's prestigious Graduate Training Program was designed to offer qualified Kuwaiti graduates a first-class entry into NBKC and a course of training of 12 months geared towards a specific career objective or target position. The challenging and stimulating 8 weeks in class training started on September 1st and will be concluded on November 10th. 33% of our candidates for the Graduate Training Program were recruited from GUST. These candidates were selected based on their high GPA, their strong academic background (Finance, Accounting and MIS), and their pleasant personality. Actually, these candidates have demonstrated, during the interview, a high level  of commitment and enthusiasm towards the program; and later on, based on the instructors' feedback, they have proved that they are smart, serious, and up to the challenge. We are really pleased to have them onboard as we do believe that they will add value to their respective groups within NBK Capital.

GUST Alumni in different professional areas speaking about their  experience and employment

Name: Fajer Al-Mutawa

Major: Marketing

Graduation Year: Fall 2007

Current Position: Ph.D. Student - University of Bath/UK

My experience at GUST was the starting point to where I am today. The University has provided me with guidance to a path of endless possibilities for my future dreams. Throughout my experience I have learned that hard work, commitment, and strength pay off to even higher achievements. As a proud GUST graduate equipped with knowledge and potential, I dedicate my success to GUST. Especially to my professors who have been my mentors, teachers, and friends throughout my educational journey. In 2008, I graduated from Lancaster University, UK with a Masters in Advanced Marketing Management.
I moved to the University of Bath in 2008 to gain both a new intellectual experience in one of the world’s top business schools and to explore a different part of the UK. I am currently in my second year of doctoral research in Marketing. By 2011, I hope to graduate with my doctoral degree and return to GUST as a proud academic scholar.

Name: Hessa Al-Ali

Major: Finance

Graduation Year: Spring 2009

Current Position: Trainee - Investment Advisory/NBK Capital

As an honored GUST Alumni, it’s my pleasure to have the Center of Career Services and Alumni's (CCSA) contribution to help me build my career path in such an early point in my life, which is, in my opinion, the most important stage that every graduate enters. Getting a job at NBK CAPITAL was one of my goals, and I have achieved it with the help of CCSA. Thank you for recommending me and making it easier for me.

Name: Heba Al-Roumi

Major: Accounting

Graduation Year: Spring 2009

Current Position: Trainee - Brokerage/NBK Capital

I know I am very proud to say I am a graduate of GUST. The University did a great job getting me ready for the workplace by focusing on "practical education," especially pertaining to accounting. My education at GUST has allowed me to obtain a great job in my field and place me on a great career track. I graduated less than two months ago and I've already been offered a great position at NBKCAPITAL. I took full advantage of the Center of Career Services and Alumni (CCSA) during my last year at GUST. CCSA played an instrumental role in this job opportunity which I was fortunate to acquire. I am truly blessed to have had this opportunity! All the programs and services organized by CCSA were helpful, and I encourage all students to utilize the services there.

Name: Layali Al-Khalifa

Major: MIS

Graduation Year: Spring 2007

Current Position: Planning Unit/Kuwait Oil Company (KOC)

I am extremely proud of the work GUST does helping students with their academic and career goals. I had a dream to build a very successful career in Project Management at the Oil Sector. The services of CCSA, especially the unique internship program have given me the opportunity to grow as a college student, and it has helped me become a more qualify candidate to compete against students from other universities for a job. After graduation, the Center was very helpful in providing me with the information I needed in order to make sure that I was aware of all the opportunities available to me.

Name: Tarek Al-Jasem

Major: Accounting

Graduation Year: Fall 2007

Current Position: Hisba Owner

My education at GUST has given me an excellent foundation to start my career. I have been accepted in one of the most respected graduate training programs at Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) and later joined the top-ranked professional services firm in the region; Ernst and Young. I would like to thank CCSA for giving me the opportunity to gain some practical experience over the Internship program. This allowed me to identify what area I needed to focus on when I came back to GUST to complete my studies. During my internship program, I was exposed to many situations which forced me to use communication skills, and now I know how important it is to have those skills. You will use communication from the day you contact the potential employer, through the interview, and up until your last day on the job. Overall, the internship was an invaluable experience that will help me in attaining my goal of becoming an excellent professional.
